LATHAM — It was a case of too much Tanner Purdue.
The Western Indians’ junior scored 32 points in an 81-57 Southern Ohio Conference win over the Symmes Valley Vikings on Tuesday.
“They shot well and played good defense. We didn’t shoot well and we didn’t play good defense. When you do that, you lose,” said Vikings’ coach Donnie Saunders.
Symmes Valley (6-10, 3-8) was led by Chayden Renfroe with 17 points. Jarod Sheppard, Sam Angelo and Laykin Gothard added 10 points each.
Besides Purdue, Bryce and Lane Brewster scored 12 each and Ethan Dunn 11 for Western (10-7, 7-5).
Western scored the first 13 points of the game and Purdue had  nine points as the Indians took a 26-9 first quarter lead.
Purdue had nine more points in the second quarter while Renfroe got six for the Vikings and it was 47-24 at the half.
Purdue added nine more points in the third quarter as Western outscored the Vikings 23-18 to take a 70-42 lead. Renfroe had eight points and Sheppard six in the quarter.
Symmes Valley goes to Portsmouth Notre Dame on Friday and visits South Gallia on Saturday.
