Preservation and revitalization are two phrases that can help any city or village looking to enhance the local economy.

For downtown Ironton, work to restore the historic Brumberg Building through work of the Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization (CAO) could give a boost to the economic outlook for the city and community.

Through funding from various sources like the Appalachian Regional Commission, historic preservation tax credits and private funding, the project of rehabbing the building into commercial space and potentially loft apartments can move forward.

This project has been on and off for several years, but having new funding could rejuvenate the efforts to return the building to its previous glory. This, combined with the efforts of several civic organizations on various projects like the Ro-Na restoration, the adjacent Berg Building and beautification projects, will play a big role in attracting new business and residents into downtown Ironton.

While some may say that the project has been ongoing for years, the ability to work toward a goal is the first step in ultimately having the economic impact envisioned. Having this funding provides the resources needed to achieve that first step, and we commend those involved in the continued efforts to make Ironton’s future bright.
