HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The St. Joseph Female Flyers just needed “a little air.”
The Female Flyers played flat in the first half before pulling away in the second half to beat the Rose Hill Christian Lady Royals 49-37 on Monday.
“It’s tough to play the same team twice in five days. We came out flat to start the game and we weren’t making shots,” said St. Joseph coach Nick Miller referring to a 55-30 win over the Royals last Thursday.
“In the second half we did a better job putting the ball in the basket and opened up a little breathing room.”
Morgan Turner scored 18 points and Kaitlyn Sheridan knocked down 14 to lead the Female Flyers (7-9).
Rose Hill (3-11) was led by Sarah Sizemore with 13 and Makenlee Sparks with 12 points.
Turner had five points in the first quarter to offset four by Sizemore as St. Joseph led 9-8.
Sheridan got six points in the second quarter and the Female Flyes were up 19-17 at the half.
St. Joseph outscored Rose Hill 12-4 in the third quarter to lead 31-21. Turner scored six points in the quarter.
Turner had seven more points while Sheridan and Ashlee Blankenship scored four each in the fourth quarter. The Female Flyers also went 7-of-14 from the foul line in the quarter.
Sparks had 10 points and Sizemore scored six more as the Lady Royals had 16 points in the quarter.
St. Joseph hosts Rock Hill on Wednesday, Jan. 25.
