Jackie Thornton Sr.

Jackie D. “Jack” Thornton Sr., 73, of Chesapeake, was called home gently by God on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, while being held in his wife’s arms and with his children by his side in St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia. Jack was the son of the late Floyd “Jack” and Helen Stumbo Thornton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sue Lester Thornton; one sister, JoAnn Galloway; a brother-in-law, Jack Galloway; a stepbrother, Paul Thornton; a stepsister, Colleen Dunfee; and a stepson, Joseph Dunfee.
He retired from the HVAC shop at AK Steel. He was the owner operator of Thornton Refrigeration Services. He was a member of Perkins Ridge Baptist Church, where he also served as a devoted Trustee.
Jack is survived by his wife of 26 years, Judy Dunfee Thornton; one son, Dale Thornton (Heather McCoy), of Wheelersburg; three daughters, Tana (John) Grubbs, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, Julie (Rob) Horn, of Ironton, and Melanie Hackworth, of Raceland, Kentucky; a stepson, Timothy Dunfee, of Willow Wood; five grandchildren, Morgan, Cassidy, Jonathan, Brooklyn and Joey; and a special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jan and Randy Tredway and their children.
Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. today at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Burial will follow in Perkins Ridge Cemetery, Willow Wood. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cleveland Clinic Cardiology Research or St. Jude’s Children Hospital.   Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.

Brandon Jones

March 28, 1989 — Jan. 10, 2017

Brandon Thomas Jones, adored husband, son, brother and friend, passed away unexpectedly at home in Conway, South Carolina, on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017. He was 27 years old.
Brandon was raised by his dad, Todd Jones and his grandparents, Tom and Judy Jones.  He was born March 28, 1989, at River Valley Hospital, Ironton. He spent most of his life in Lawrence County, working at Pick ‘n Save and Bartram’s grocery stores and graduating from Ironton High School in 2008. He attended Ohio University Southern for two years, working towards getting a teaching degree.
Brandon met Becca Pack when they were both in eighth grade. During their 14 years together, they enjoyed many adventures and were almost inseparable. The childhood sweethearts started their greatest adventure July 24, 2010, when they got married.
Brandon was preceded in death by his dad, Todd Jones; and his mamaw, Judy Jones.
Besides his cherished wife, Becca, Brandon is survived and mourned beyond words by his in-laws, Mark and Dru Pack, of Florence, South Carolina; brother-in-law, Evan Pack, of Florence, South Carolina; papaw, Tom Jones, Coal Grove; a sister, Candice Jones Delawder and her little girl, Myia, of Surfside, South Carolina; two aunts, Teresa Hughes, of Gallipolis, and Dee Jones, of Coal Grove; and many cousins.
Also mourning Brandon’s untimely passing is his childhood best friend, Rob Hasenauer, who was like a brother to Brandon; Rob’s mom, Tammy Lilly, whom Brandon loved like a mom and the rest of ‘the guys,”  Travis Shope, Luke Sanders, Shelby Kitchen and Jon Clark.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with open-casket visitation 5-6 p.m. only. Graveside service will be conducted Wednesday at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point, by the Rev. Eric Barnes.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, donations may be made to Becca Pack Jones, 2110 S. 11th Street, Ironton, OH, to help her with the expenses resulting from this tragic loss.
Brandon’s wife, family and friends are so grateful for the tremendous outpouring of love and kindness shown to them during this heartbreaking and devastating time.

John Adams Jr.

John William Adams, Jr., 70, of South Point, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Adams.
Arrangements are pending at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point.

 

Ruth Norma Lynd

April 23, 1921 — Jan. 13, 2017

Ruth Norma Lynd, 95, of Ironton, passed away Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, at Oakmont Manor in Flatwoods, Kentucky.
The Lawrence County native was born April 23, 1921, a daughter to the late William and Lucretia Sites. Mrs. Lynd was also preceded in death by her husband, Loren Lynd.
Mrs. Lynd was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She attended Ohio Furnace Enterprise Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband and parents she is preceded in death by a son, Donald Lynn.
She is survived by a son, Garry (Sue Wileman) Lynd, of Pedro; three grandsons, Garry Michael (Debbie) Lynd, of Galloway, Shawn Lynd, of Port Clinton, and Eric Lynd, of Port Clinton; two great-granddaughters, Jasmine Lynd, of Dublin, and Elizabeth (Tim) Watson, of Huntington, West Virginia; two great-great-granddaughters, Ruby Watson and Skylar Watson, both of Huntington, West Virginia; and one brother, William (Cheryl) Sites, of Chesapeake.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Tracy Brammer–Monroe Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Homer Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until the time of service Tuesday. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Ruths’ name to Community Hospice, 2330 Pollard Road, Ashland, KY 41101.
