PEDRO — Forget Cookie Monster. Anna Darby is a rebound monster.
Darby has spent her high school career gobbling up rebounds and she reached a milestone on Saturday as she pulled down her 1,000th career rebound as the Rock Hill Redwomen beat the Green Lady Bobcats 59-21.
“I think a player should take as much pride in rebounds and they do in points. You have to have someone crashing the boards or you don’t win. Anna has a knack for getting her hands on the ball. I’m happy for her,” said Rock Hill coach Greg Damron.
Darby finished with 13 rebounds and 8 points for the Redwomen (5-5) who had 12 of their 14 players scored.
Maddie Scott added 8 points and 7 rebounds while Caitlynn Meadows and Taylor Hall grabbed 4 rebounds each.
“It was a team effort. Everybody contributed. We got everyone some playing time and we played really good defense in the third quarter,” said Damron.
Kaylynn Blizzard scored 14 points for Green.
“The Blizzard girl did a nice job for (Green). She’s a nice ballplayer,” said Damron.
Scott score all 8 of her points in the first quarter and Darby got 5 as Rock Hill took a 14-1 lead.
Rock Hill led 22-7 at the half and extended the lead to 40-13 after three quarters as Lucy Simpson scored 6 points for the Redwomen.
Samantha Stamper scored 6 points in the fourth as Rock Hill outscored Green 19-8.
Rock Hill visits Portsmouth on Monday.
