A new store in Ironton is helping to raise money for a good cause.

Nancy’s Nook, opened on Park Avenue, across from Rite Aid, earlier this month and sales from the consignment shop are helping to fund the Harvest for the Hungry Food Pantry downtown.

The store is named for one of Harvest director Diane Porter’s friends, who died of cancer.

“When people asked how she was doing, Nancy always said ‘It’s all good,’” volunteer Lois Terkhorn said. “We’re trying to keep things in line with that here.”

The store, staffed by volunteers, offers a range of items, from kitchenware and clothing, to furniture and jewelry, and seeks to offer a higher quality selection.

“We have clothes, dishes, shoes and books,” Terkhorn, who also volunteers at Harvest, said.

She said a good chunk of the store’s stock came from a recent estate sale, while other items have been donated.

“As you can see, she liked angels and we have a lot those,” Terkhorn said of the collection acquired from the estate sale.

A Christmas tree stands in the store’s front room, decorated with ornaments, all of which are for sale.

The items are priced for affordability, Terkhorn said.

“It’s good for browsing here,” she said. “People can come in and say, ‘Oh, I like that.”

In addition, the store has larger furniture at another location, which can be sold.

Terkhorn said the store is open from 10 a.m.-4p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. An open house event is planned for Jan. 10, for which they will be open until 7 p.m.
