ASHLAND, Ky. — The streak is no more.
The Rock Hill Redmen put an end to the program’s 34-game losing streak dating back to Feb. 10, 2015, after being the Rose Hill Christian Royals 54-50 on Thursday.
“I couldn’t be happier for our guys in that locker room. I think it goes without saying that our program needed this. These kids have battled every night for the past two years,” said Gue.
“We have leadership from our upperclassmen and I feel like they are growing as men and as teammates. We talk about enjoying the process each step of the way. Hopefully we continue to understand the importance of unity through every hurdle and every accomplishment.”
Mason Darby led the Rock Hill attack with 23 points along with 12 rebounds and 5 assists. Timmy Adkins had 10 points while Isaac Floyd and Jaret Bacorn had 4 rebounds each.
Nathan Hamilton scored 17 points, Joseph Hale 13 and Stephan Barker 10 to lead Rose Hill (2-3).
Darby had 6 points in the first quarter to match 6 points by Hamilton as Rock Hill took a 13-8 lead.
Darby had 10 more points in the second quarter but Hamilton’s 5 points rallied the Royals to within 25-22 at the half.
Logan Hankins scored 7 points in the third quarter as Rock Hill held onto a 40-36 lead.
Kadin France had 6 of his 8 points in the fourth quarter as each team scored 14 points. Barker and Marcus Boyd scored 4 points each for the Royals.
“This is a fun group. So many guys stepped up tonight in different situations. It seemed like every time I called on someone to come into the game, he made plays when he had the opportunity,” said Gue.
“It certainly was not our best game, but we were able to find a way. Rose Hill challenged us and seemed to always respond well in the face of adversity down the stretch.”
Rock Hill’s last win was 57-40 over Symmes Valley on Feb. 10, 2015.
The Redmen host Fairland on Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
