2 city workers plead not guilty

Drugs, CCS violations fill court docket
Two Ironton city laborers who worked for the Ironton Health Department pleaded not guilty to illegal use of a credit card in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court Wednesday.
Ryan Meeks, 31, of Ironton, and Jeremy Penwell, 34, of Pedro, were arrested earlier this year for allegedly using the health department issued city gas card for personal use.
At the time of the arrest, Ironton Police Detective Joe Ross said the department believed approximately between $600-$800 was used on the card.
Judge Richard Walton set bond at $50,000 OR and pre-trial was set for Dec. 14.
In other cases:
• James Basenback, 27, of 226 McCalum Street, Westwood, Kentucky, admitted community controlled sanctions violations. Judge Charles Cooper sentenced him to 15 months in prison with CCS being terminated at the conclusion of his time served.
• Richard Smith, 62, of 618 N. Sixth Street, Ironton, denied community controlled sanctions violations. Judge Cooper set trial for Dec. 14.
• Tabitha Colvin, 28, of 721 S. Eighth Street, Ironton, denied community controlled sanctions violations. Judge Cooper set trial for Dec. 14.
• Virginia White, 41, of 1173 County Road 1 Lot 28, South Point, pleaded not guilty to fifth-degree complicity to trafficking in drugs and fourth-degree trafficking in drugs. Judge Cooper set bond at $10,000 cash or surety with $10,000 OR and GPS monitoring. Pre-trial was set for Dec. 14.
• Clayton Hill III, 25, of Olive Hill, Kentucky, pleaded not guilty to second-degree possession of drugs and second-degree trafficking in drugs. Judge Cooper set bond at $75,000 cash or surety. Pre-trial was set for Dec. 14.
• Johnny Carter, 34, of 11183 County Road 1 Lot 8, Chesapeake, admitted community controlled sanctions violations. Judge Richard Walton sentenced him to four months in prison with CCS being terminated at the conclusion of his time served.
• Johnathan Phillips, 27, of 1792 State Route 986, Olive Hill, Kentucky, admitted community controlled sanctions violations. Judge Walton sentenced him to 48 days in jail.
• Ann Bowen, 29, of Buffalo, West Virginia, pleaded not guilty to one third-degree and one fourth-degree count of theft. Judge Walton set bond at $25,000 OR and $10,000 cash or surety. Pre-trial was set for Dec. 7.
• Justin Moore, 26, of 703B S. Ninth Street, Ironton, admitted community controlled sanctions violations. Judge Walton sentenced him to six months in prison.
• Arnold Anderson, 39, of 3868 State Route 141, Ironton, was convicted of three counts of third-degree trafficking in drugs following a trial this past week. Judge Walton sentenced him to 16 months in prison for each count, to run concurrently, for a total of 16 months in prison and a $2,500 fine for each count. Anderson indicated he would appeal.
