Harold Brown

Feb. 10, 1920 — Nov. 17, 2016

Harold Fulton Brown, 96, passed away on Nov. 17, 2016, after a brief illness. He was born in Ironton on Feb. 10, 1920, to the late Stanley F. Brown and Jennie Fulton Brown.
He was a 1937 graduate of Ironton High School. He graduated in 1941 from the Ohio State University with a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering. After graduation, he became employed with the Allied Chemical Corporation, Semet-Solvay Division, as a chemist, operations supervisor, research engineer and environmental engineer. He was employed by Allied Chemical for 42 years, until his retirement in 1983. Harold served his country in World War II from 1943-1946. He was in the U.S. Army, 1277th Engineer Combat Battalion, Medical Detachment, in the European Theater of Operations in England, France, Austria and Germany. He received a number of service awards, including the French Croix de Guerre with Palm and Fourragere, the Croix de Guerre decoration and four Bronze Service Stars.
He was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church in Ironton, serving in a number of capacities, including as a member of the Board of Deacons.
He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Dr. Timothy H. Brown, of Hamilton; and his sisters, Mary Brown Hall and Helen Brown Winsett, of Ironton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Betty Griffith Brown; son, Richard D. (Suzanne) Brown, of Canal Winchester; daughter-in-law, Vivian Brown, of Hamilton; seven grandchildren, Stephanie (John) Stelzer, Christopher (Kelli) Brown, Jessica Brown, Jason (Tayla) Brown, Samuel (Allie) Breckenridge, Sarah (Brad) Kernan and Garrett Griffith Brown; six great-grandchildren; two nieces; and a nephew.
Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Eric Barnes officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery with military graveside rites by the VFW Post 8850. Visitation will be noon until the time of the funeral service Friday at the funeral home. Victoria Pollard

March 2, 1957 — Nov. 20, 2016

Victoria Lynn Pollard, 59, of West Portsmouth, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, at Southern Ohio Medical Center. She was born March 2, 1957, in Forestdale, to the late Jacob Grove and Gladys Dillon Grove, who survives. Along with her father, she is preceded in death by two brothers, David and Stephen Grove.
She was a 1975 graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School and she was the shipping supervisor of OSCO Industries.
Victoria is survived by her husband, Michael Ray Pollard, whom she married Aug. 12, 2005; a son, Curtis (Kristy) Tordiff, of Ray; three daughters, Ali (Cody) Alston, of Portsmouth, Traci Pollard, of West Portsmouth, and Courtney Pollard, of Sciotoville; two grandchildren, Brandon Devers and Ryan Tordiff; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Grove, of Los Lunas, New Mexico, Delores Grove, of Forestdale; and her mother-in-law, Peggy Pollard, of West Portsmouth.

Tina Webb

March 12, 1984 — Nov. 20, 2016

Tina Marie Webb, 32, of Ironton, went to be with the Lord Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, at her home after an extended illness. She was born March 12, 1984, the daughter of Janet Long Wagner of Spencer, West Virginia, formerly of Ironton.
Tina is a graduate of Rock Hill High School with the class of 2002 and attended Ironton High School. She graduated in 2004 from Ohio University with an Associate of Applied Science degree. Tina worked at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky, for 10 years and Lawrence County Adult Probation since 2014.
She was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, SFC Ralph L. Long and Alberta McGarvey Long Mallar; maternal great-aunt and uncle, Betty “Loudie” and Bob Moore; and an aunt, Lena Mallar.
She is survived by her son, Miles Keenan Webb, whom she loved dearly; and his father, Johnny Webb. She is also survived by her mother, Janet Long (Greg) Wagner, of Spencer, West Virginia; aunts, Joanie (John) Nelson and Janie Carmon, of Ironton;
uncles, Ralph (Rose) Long, of Kitts Hill, and Mark Carmon, of Ironton; great-uncle, Bill (Faith) McGarvey, of Granger, Indiana; half sister, Stephanie Roberts, of Lenoir City, Tennessee; cousins, Aley Carmon, of Ironton, Marie (Phil) Martin, of Hawaii, Lindsay (Jonathan) McClure, of Quainton, England, and Amanda Nelson, of Kitts Hill; a special cousin and long time friends, Adrian (Blackstock) Arose and Corie Savary.
Tina leaves behind a host of dear friends that loved her greatly and those whom she became friends with and was an inspiration to along her journey.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Bowman Auditorium of the Ohio University Southern Campus and burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Charles Howard

Dec. 29, 1952 — Nov. 20, 2016

Charles Scott Howard, 63, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Ironton Campus. The Portsmouth native was born Dec. 29, 1952, a son of Mavis Irene Scott Howard of Ironton and the late Charles W. Howard.
Scott graduated from Ironton High School with the class of 1971 and earned his B.S., M.A., and Ph.D. from Ohio University, Athens. Scott held many positions throughout his career including assistant dean at Ohio University, Ironton; public school superintendent for nearly 20 years; assistant marketing director for the SAS Institute in Cary, North Carolina; and senior policy analyst for Ohio University Voinovich School for Leadership & Public Affairs, Athens. Scott was currently adjunct faculty with O.U. and owned his own consulting company, TS Training Solutions, and was also employed by LEDC to run the Ohio Strategic Training Center. He was passionate about bringing educational opportunities to our Appalachian area evidenced by his commitment to the Tri-State Early College STEM-M Academy set to open in the fall of 2017. Scott was a BASA past president, past Audit Team Chair for NCATE, served on the BEST Board of Directors, honored as Superintendent of the Year, recognized by the Ohio House & Senate for Excellence in School Leadership, received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Ohio University’s College of Education, and contributed to several publications. He was a member of the Ohio Commodores, Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, and the American Legion. Scott enjoyed fishing, motorcycles, trucks and spending time in Florida with his family.
In addition to his mother, Scott is survived by his wife, Jennifer Waller Howard, whom he married Aug. 19, 1978; their son, Charles Scott Howard Jr., of Cleveland, Ohio; and his brother, Jeffrey K. Howard, of Ironton.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with Father David Huffman officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.  Pallbearers for the service will be Jeff Howard, Steve Addington, Bill Waller, Curt Robinson, Tim Kleinman and Jim Carrico. Glenda Kessick

Glenda M. Kessick, 67, of Ashland, Kentucky, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington. She is survived by her husband, James J. Kessick. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. today at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park, Ashland. Visitation will be noon-1 p.m. today at the funeral home.
