Ironton Police have a possible match for skeletal remains found along the riverbank near a coal tipple on the south end of the city Friday evening.

Detective Joe Ross said a local dentist examined the remains and police then looked at dental records of missing people throughout the Tri-State.

“I pulled some dental records from a missing person from the Tri-State area, and matched a lot of those with what the dentist found examining the remains,” Ross said. “But we don’t know for sure if it’s a match until we get the DNA records back.”

Ross added that it will take nearly two months to get the DNA records.

The name of the missing person who is a possible match and time they went missing are not being released by police at this time.
