Man denies assault of girlfriend

An Ironton man accused of assaulting his girlfriend was arraigned Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.
Jerry Lavender III, 34, of 211 Depot St., pleaded not guilty to a bill of information of second-degree felonious assault. Retired Judge Richard Walton set bond at $75,000 cash or surety and set a pretrial for Dec. 7.
According to court records, Lavender’s girlfriend picked him up from a local bar on Oct. 7 and he allegedly became angry and ripped her rear and side view mirrors from her car.
The woman then allegedly drove to the Ironton Police Department and while she was walking to the door of the station, Lavender allegedly hit her and knocked her down. The man also allegedly kicked her in the face and ribs before taking the vehicle.
The victim was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center to be treated for her injuries.
Also on Wednesday, seven Ironton residents answered drug charges, following their arrests by the Lawrence Drug and Major Crimes Task Force.
Those individuals were:
• David D. Valentine, 56, of 2543 S. Fifth St., pleaded not guilty to four fourth-degree counts of trafficking in drugs. Walton set bond at $10,000 cash or surety and set a pretrial for Nov. 30.
• Kimberly D. Cochran, 35, of 600 N. Sixth St., pleaded not guilty to a fourth- and a fifth-degree count of trafficking in drugs. Walton set bond at $10,000 cash or surety or $10,000 own-recognizance plus GPS monitoring. A pretrial was set for Nov. 30.
• Wanda J. Stapleton, 45, of 2548 S. Sixth St.; pleaded not guilty to four fourth-degree counts of trafficking in drugs. Walton set bond at $10,000 cash or surety and set a pretrial for Nov. 30.
• Richard W. Gee, 54, of 1014 Ellison Ave., pleaded not guilty to a fourth-degree count of trafficking in drugs. Walton set bond at $25,000 OR plus GPS. A pretrial was set for Nov. 30.
• Chasity Lynn Hall, 21, of 3558 County Road 103, Ironton, pleaded not guilty to a fifth-degree count of trafficking in drugs. Walton set bond at $10,000 OR and set a pretrial for Nov. 30.
• Randall Lee Boggs, 35, of 513 N. Sixth St., pleaded not guilty to two fourth- and one fifth-degree count of trafficking in drugs. Walton set bond at $10,000 cash or surety or $10,000 OR plus GPS monitoring. A pretrial was set for Nov. 30.
• Joshua Allen Gee, 26, of 412 N. Fifth St., pleaded not guilty to two fifth-degree counts of trafficking in drugs. Walton set bond at $10,000 cash or surety or $10,000 OR plus GPS monitoring. A pretrial was set for Nov. 30.
In other cases:
• Thomas Cox, 35, of 30 Township Road 310, Ironton, pleaded guilty to a fifth-degree count of possession of drugs. Walton sentenced the man to four years community control sanctions under intensive supervised probation, STAR, and 200 hours of community service.
• Edward Holmes Jr., 38, of 211 Orchard St., Ironton, admitted CCS violations and was sentenced to four years CCS/ISP and treatment at the Salvation Army in Columbus.
• Aaron Holley, 38, of 785 County Road 411, Proctorville, violated his treatment in lieu conditions and was sentenced to four years CCS/ISP and 200 hours community service.
• Samantha Garcia, 33, of 11287 County Road 1, Chesapeake, was arraigned on a fifth-degree count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, to which she pleaded not guilty. Judge Charles Cooper set bond at $10,000 OR and ordered her to report weekly to the adult probation department for drug testing. A pretrial was set for Nov. 30.
• Teresa Willis, 45, of 593 County Road 119, Ironton, pleaded guilty to third-degree unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. Cooper set sentencing for Jan. 4.
• Stephen Siders, 28, of 1173 County Road 1 Lot 24, South Point, pleaded guilty to third-degree counts of failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and tampering with evidence, fourth-degree assault on a peace officer, fifth-degree possession of drugs and misdemeanor endangering children. Cooper sentenced the man to two years in prison.
• Sean James, 24, of 412 Mill St., Ironton, admitted CCS violations and was sentenced to 150 days in prison.
• Crystal Grenier, 32, of 622 County Road 56, South Point, pleaded guilty to a fifth-degree count of possession of drugs. Cooper sentenced the woman to four years CCS/ISP.
• Evin McConnell, 19, of 416 Walnut St., Ironton, pleaded guilty to a second-degree count of felonious assault. A charge of first-degree aggravated robbery was dismissed.
Cooper sentenced the man to four years in prison.
