SOUTH POINT — Residents of the village of South Point have likely noticed a change to Solida Road this week.
On Sunday, a blue line was added between the yellow dividing lines on the street, running from County Road 1 to Solida Road.
The project, which was suggested by Mayor Jeff Gaskin, is intended to represent a “Thin Blue Line” in support of law enforcement.
“We’re recognizing, not the only the sacrifices of our police department, but those that law enforcement nationwide make,” Gaskin said.
He said the idea, proposed about a month ago, came after seeing similar projects in other villages and towns.
Gaskin said the painting did not cost the village anything, as the spraying was done for free by Akers Paving from Chesapeake and the paint was donated by Sherwin Williams in Ashland.
Gaskin said the spraying took about an hour to complete.
“We understand other first responders, fire and EMS, are just as brave,” Gaskin said. “We painted it in blue, but we recognize that fire and EMS put their lives on the line, too.”
