Court hears domestic violence, theft cases

An Ironton man will serve 90 days in jail and four years of community-controlled sanctions for domestic violence and resisting arrest.
Russell L. Adkins, 30, of 826 S. Tenth St., Ironton, pleaded guilty to the charges in Judge D. Scott Bowling’s courtroom during Lawrence County Common Pleas Court Wednesday.
Bowling also required Adkins to undergo drug and alcohol counseling.
In other cases:
Robin K. Black, 37, of 218 ½ S. Fourth St., pleaded not guilty to charges of theft from an elderly person and intimidation of a witness or victim. Judge Charles Cooper set a pretrial in the case for Nov. 10 and continued Black’s bond from a lower court.
David A. Jackson, 30, of 230 Rock Ave., Ironton, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated trafficking in drugs.
Bowling will sentence Jackson Dec. 1.
David Malanowski, 29, of Rural Route 2, Ona, W.Va., pleaded not guilty to a three-count indictment that included possession of crack cocaine, possession of drug abuse instruments and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
Judge D. Scott Bowling set bond at $20,000 on his own recognizance and $3,000 cash or surety. A pretrial has been set for Nov. 10.
Nicholas C. Sycks, 24, of 3466 County Rd. 181, Ironton, pleaded not guilty to aggravated possession of drugs and failure to appear. Cooper set bond at $5,000 cash or surety and set a pretrial hearing for Nov. 10.
Waymon D. Smith, 21, of 412 High St., Coal Grove, pleaded not guilty to theft. A pretrial hearing has been set for Nov. 17.
