CHESAPEAKE — More hat tricks for Jake Helton.
The South Point Pointers beat the Chesapeake Panthers 6-3 in an Ohio Valley Conference soccer game on Tuesday as Helton registered another three-goal game.
Helton got plenty of help as Drew Smith scored two goals and also had two assists. Merrick Harris had the other South Point goal while Helton added an assist.
Dalton Nida had two goals including one on a penalty kick. Kent Picklesimer had an unassisted goal for the Panthers.
“Chesapeake played very well for a team with multiple injuries. They always play us tough. Dalton Nida may be one of the fastest players with the ball in the whole district,” said Pointers’ coach Zane Joy.
“We controlled the ball very well and we had a lot of chances to score but their defense held us in check.”
South Point (6-5-1, 4-1) took a 2-0 lead on goals by Helton seven minutes into the game. Nida scored at the 17-minute mark but Smith had an unassisted goal four minutes later and Harris scored off an assist from Smith and the lead was 4-1 at the 31 minute mark.
Picklesimer’s goal before the half made it 4-2, but Smith scored off an assist from Helton one minute into the second half and it was 5-2.
Nida scored on a penalty kick for Chesapeake (3-6-1, 2-3-1) but Helton sealed the win with an unassisted goal.
In the girls’ game, Chesapeake topped South Point 1-0.
South Point hosts Wheelersburg next Tuesday. The girls’ game is at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7:30.
South Point 4 2 = 6
Chesapeake 2 1 = 3
