FRANKLIN FURNACE — One man’s ceiling is another man’s floor.
Things that went well for the Green Bobcats were in part due to bad things happening to the Symmes Valley Vikings.
Symmes Valley built a 28-8 lead to begin the second half but two key lost fumbles helped fuel Green’s 32-28 comeback win on Friday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
“Our kids played hard. We just had bad tings happen at the wrong time,” said Vikings’ coach Rusty Webb.
The Vikings fell to 1-4 and 0-2 in the SOC. Green is 3-2 and 1-1.
Green took an 8-0 lead two minutes into the game when Alex Hughes hit Steve Smith with a 79-yard touchdown pass. Tyler Darnell ran for the conversion.
The Vikings answered with a 65-yard scoring drive capped by a 12-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Lucas to Derik Brace. The conversion failed and it was 8-6 with 4:28 left in the quarter.
Lucas put the Viking sup 14-8 with 8:11 left in the half on a 13-yard pass to Levi Cade. Payton Hayes ran for the conversion.
Symmes Valley led 20-8 at the half as Green fumbled the ball away and Lucas found Keifer Wilson free for a 38-yard scoring pass.  The conversion failed.
“The difference in the game was they made all four of their conversion and we only made two of ours,” said Webb.
The Vikings Levi Cade bolted 67 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the second half and the lead was 28-8. Jarod Sheppard ran for the conversion.
But Green used a long run by Tyler McClain to the 1-yard line to set up a 1-yards plunge by Hughes.
Hughes also ran for the conversion and it was 28-16.
The Bobcats closed to within 28-24 on a 1-yard run by McClain with just 42 seconds left in the third quarter. Hughes passed to Brayden Bush for the conversion.
The teams exchanged punts and they Vikings were looking to run the clock out when they fumbled the ball away with four minutes to play.
Green capitalized as Darnell ran 16 yards on a fourth-and-4 play to the 1-yard line and Hughes scored on the next play with just 1:10 to go.
Smith ran for the conversion.
The Vikings had one final chance and drove to the Green 30 only to turn the ball over on downs.
Symmes Valley had 285 total yards with 184 coming on the ground and Lucas hitting 5-of-8 passes for 101 yards and three touchdowns.
Cade carried six times for 94 yards and Hayes ran 15 times for 58 yards.
Green finished with 329 total yards including 213 on the ground.
McClain ran 19 times for 128 yards and Darnell rushed 17 times for 86 yards. Hughes was 2-of-4 passing for 116 yards — all to Smith.
