It may happen only once each year, but the historical walk at Woodland Cemetery has become a beloved tradition in Ironton.

The annual event, hosted by the Lawrence County Historical Society, makes the past come alive with the telling of stories of the people and rich history we have right here at home.

This year’s tour begins at 5 p.m. Saturday, and visitors have the opportunity to hear from many former residents who played an integral role in forming Lawrence County.

The event not only offers a look into our county’s past, but offers an educational opportunity for adults and children alike. Frank Goldcamp, an Ironton resident, who was killed during World War I, along with some familiar names like Nannie Kelly Wright, one of the richest women in the world in her time, will be some of the 34 characters during this year’s walk.

We commend the efforts of the historical society and all those who volunteer each year to put the walk on and portray the characters.
Events like this are wonderful not only to hear about our past, but to also provide a realization that we can all create a lasting success story right here.

While some may move far away to create their success story, it is possible to do it make a mark at home.
