Fried bologna sandwiches served at Farmers Market
Once a month during summer and early fall, Ironton In Bloom sets up at the Farmers Market for a community event showcasing what’s available at the market at that time.
Saturday, the group was having its tomato fest, where fried bologna sandwiches were served with tomatoes and onions.
“We try to tie it into the fresh produce that’s available at the market,” Steve Call, of Ironton in Bloom, said. “It gets Ironton In Bloom involved in the community, and the community really likes it down here. They come down and enjoy what we’ve been serving.”
The group runs on donations, which are then used for flowerpots and hanging baskets around the city, as well as continuing to do other activities.
“Fundraising is our biggest challenge because we’re just a self-funded organization that runs through donations and events like this,” Call said. “Our mission is to beautify Ironton and keep it blooming.”
