Sewer system, flooding topic for South Point council meeting

SOUTH POINT — Recent flooding within the village is expected to be a topic at the meeting of South Point’s village council on Tuesday.

Mayor Jeff Gaskin said the 7:30 p.m. meeting will focus on problems the village encountered when it received several inches of rain a few weeks ago, and members will work on a plan to deal with sewage systems backing up.

Gaskin said the village recently smoked the sewer system, by injecting nontoxic smoke into the pipes, which allowed village workers to detect leaks and to find cases in which homes may have had their downspouts illegally hooked to the system.
