WILLOW WOOD — It has been a long time since the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings have beaten the Beaver Eastern Lady Eagles in volleyball.

On Thursday it looked like it was going to be even longer.

But after losing the first set 25-12, the Lady Vikings won the next three sets 25-23, 25-22 and 25-3 in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“It was a really good win for our team,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Kristin Klaiber. “We didn’t have a very good first game, but we didn’t give up, we didn’t hang our head and we kept fighting.”

Makayla Herrell and Kinley Patterson provided the offensive punch as they combined for 30 points and five aces. Herrell tallied 16 points and Patterson 14.

Taylor Webb was strong at the net with 15 kills — eight in the fourth set — and seven blocks.

Sierra Ross had 12 assists and Hannah Newcomb eight digs in the win.

Symmes Valley plays at New Boston in a league game at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
