Anyone wanting to help keep Symmes Creek clean is welcome to come out with a canoe or kayak on the morning of Aug. 13.
That is when it will be this year’s Symmes Creek Canoe Caper.
“It is open to anyone in the Tri-State,” Hayward Chapelll, Symmes Creek Restoration Committee member, said. “If people would like to help clean up. There are canoes available.”
Those who don’t want to get into the water, can work along the creek bank.
The caper has been going on since 1977 when the restoration committee started with the goal of making the creek a viable waterway and place for entertainment for those in the Tri-State.
The committee meets at 11:45 a.m. the first Monday of ever y month at the Lake Vesuvius Nature Center.
It has created or cleaned up six different launch sites along the creek.
“We made a new access ramp at the Aid launch site,
Chappell said. “We work with the forest service to help with events at Vesuvius and we do a cleanup at Timber Ridge Lake.”
There will be a raffle for a canoe at Saturday’s event for $3 a ticket. There will also be a free lunch and free T-shirt given away.
