The Ironton Fire Department battled two Saturday morning blazes this past weekend, one resulting in injury.

The first occurred at 2208 N. Third St., where there was a small bedroom fire.

“We got the call around 7:58 a.m.,” Lt. Joe Marshall, of the Ironton Fire Department, said. “The fire was just confined to one downstairs bedroom and there were no injuries.”

He added that one of the fire department’s Project S.A.F.E. smoke detectors that was installed at the house was what woke the family up.

“There was just damage to that one room,” he said. “The rest of the house suffered smoke damage, but it’s still livable.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Another fire occurred at 510 Railroad St. Apt. 4 around 8:31 a.m. Saturday when the Ironton Fire Department received the call.

“A lady was smoking with oxygen which caused a fire in her bedroom,” Marshall said. “She was burnt and one neighbor pulled her from her apartment.”

Linda Adkins was the victim of the fire, having to be pulled out by neighbor Bryant Wagner. Adkins was transported to Cabell-Huntington Hospital following the incident.

Marshall said crews left the first fire around 9:15 a.m. and got finished with the second around 9:45 a.m.
