The city of Ironton may soon have a new electric service provider with an ordinance set to be given at tonight’s Ironton City Council meeting.
Ordinance 16-35, authorizing the mayor to execute a contract with Champion Energy Services for electric service and declaring an emergency, will be given its first reading. Champion Energy Services has agreed to provide electric service to the city of Ironton at a significant cost saving.
Also to be given a first reading is Ordinance 16-34, authorizing the mayor to purchase new dumpsters for the city of Ironton.
The city has a garbage collection fund, and some of the dumpsters in the city are currently unsafe to use because of age and condition, causing the city to experience a reduction in revenue from businesses choosing to use other garbage collection companies. The purchasing of new dumpsters would benefit the city by retaining customers, as well as gaining new ones.
The cost would not exceed $5,000 for six new dumpsters purchased out of the Garbage Equipment Replacement Fund.
Three ordinances will be given third and final readings including Ordinance 16-30, authorizing and directing the mayor to negotiate and enter into an agreement for engineering and design services with E.L. Robinson Engineering Company Inc. regarding the Memorial Hall improvement project and declaring an emergency; Ordinance 16-31, authorizing the mayor to submit an application to the Ohio Department of Development for the use of revolving loan funds (RLF) for façade improvements and declaring an emergency; and Ordinance 16-32, amending the annual operating budget for the city of Ironton for the fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 2016 and declaring an emergency.
Regarding the Memorial Hall project, improvements include new sidewalks, a bench and flagpole costing $23,955. An allocation grant of $24,000 from the Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization will be used for the project.
Joe Unger, owner of Unger’s Shoes, requested $2,200 from the RLF for façade improvements regarding Ordinance-31.
Resolution 16-33, to adopt the solid waste management plan for the Lawrence-Scioto Solid Waste Management District, rounds out the council agenda.
Ironton City Council meets tonight at 6 p.m. in the council chambers on the third floor of the Ironton City Center.
