Museum promotes county

For those not heading to the Lawrence County Fair on Saturday, but wanting something fun to do, there is the first ever pie contest at the Lawrence County Museum at 1 p.m. The idea is to show off the museum and its repository of the history of our area.

The volunteers at the museum are a hard-working group of individuals who care about keeping the history of Lawrence County alive. They put in countless hours playing docent on their free Saturday or Sunday off.

They organize two teas each year as well as numerous receptions that are important fundraisers, including the one that caps off the Christmas church walk.

Then there is the historical walk every September that brings out the crowds.

These men and women work hard because they care about Lawrence County.

Next month, there will be a sing-along-honoring a former Dawson-Bryant music teacher. Then there are the December Sunday events that make the holidays brighter.

When we see how much these volunteers do, we should all salute them and support the museum as much as we can.
