Raymond Emmons
March 20, 1932 — June 7, 2016
M. Sgt. Raymond H. Emmons, Ret., 84, of Ruffin, South Carolina, formerly of Kitts Hill, died Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at the Medical University of South Carolina from complications from a stroke.
Mr. Emmons was born in North Kennebunkport, Maine, the son of the late Clarence R. and Grace A. Woods Emmons, on March 20, 1932. He was a graduate of Kennebunk High school in Kennebunk, Maine in 1950. Raymond joined the U.S. Air Force soon after graduation, remained in the service for 20 years and retired as an M. Sgt. He concluded his working career as a manager at the Suburban Propane facility on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Mr. Emmons is survived by his loving wife of six and a half years, Elberta N. Emmons, of Charleston, South Carolina; his devoted sister, Army Lt. Col. (Ret.) Mary Emmons, of Charleston, South Carolina; four children, Michael Emmons, of Wakefield, New Hampshire, Ellen Bowden, of Cumberland, Maine, Bruce Emmons, of Kennebunkport, Maine, and Glenda Burg, of Pleasant Ridge, Michigan; two stepsons, Randall L. Curry, of Ft. Myers, Florida and Bradley L. Curry, of Caledonia; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Emmons is preceded in death by one son, Stephen Emmons in 2005; four brothers, Rodney, Ralph, Richard and Robert Emmons; five sisters, Elsie Storrs, Edith Wilson, Virginia Mahar, Ruth Cluff and Lucy Emmons.
Cremation services were provided by Parker and Rhoden Funeral Home in Walterboro, South Carolina. Graveside services with full military honors will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday at Woodland Cemetery in Ironton.
Misty Frazier
Feb. 24, 1973 — July 3, 2016
On the afternoon of July 3, 2016, at CabellHuntington Hospital surrounded by her loving husband, Larry Frazier, and family, Misty Rena Frazier left this world of pain and suffering to be with her heavenly father. She was born Feb. 24, 1973, in Ironton, a daughter of Paul and Brenda Collins, of Ironton. Misty was a 1992 graduate of Ironton High School.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Paul Frazier and Jeremy Paul Chatfield. Besides her husband and parents, she is also survived by one sister, Kathy Rust; nephews, Troy Rust, Jaimie Blevins and Bryan Frazier; nieces, Molly Rust, Versie Fannin, Heather Frazier and Lisa Griffith; brother-in-law, Karl Rust; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Donna Frazier; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Everett Hardy; and a host of other family members and friends.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova, West Virginia. Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Rollins Funeral Home with Brother Bruce Finley officiating. Burial will be in the A.J. Frazier cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rollinsfh.com.
Lowell Swartzwelder
Lowell F. “Ted” Swartzwelder, 81, of South Point, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 30, 2016, at King’s Daughters Medical Center. Born and raised in Coal Grove, he became a resident of Wheelersburg in 1966. He was the son of the late William H. and Olevia Rice Swartzwelder.
The Rev. Swartzwelder graduated from Coal Grove High School in 1953. He retired from American Electric Power (Ohio) after 40 years of service. He was a bi-vocational minister serving Baptist churches in Lawrence and Scioto Counties for 40 years.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Kermit Swartzwelder; and one sister, Carol Porter Waller.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, Naomi Wineka Swartzwelder. Other survivors include his sons, Tom (Ruth Ellen) Swartzwelder and Paul (Mary) Swartzwelder; granddaughters, Ashley Swartzwelder, Lindsay (Gary) Fields, Elizabeth (Michael) Cozad, Rebekah Swartzwelder and Rachel Swartzwelder; and great-grandchildren, Maddie and Gared Fields. Also, surviving are sisters, Patty (Ron) Heyman and Peggy (Ray) Hardin; sister-in- law, Nancy Swartzwelder; and many nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service was observed on July 6 at the O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home with Roger Pierce officiating. Donations may be made to The Gideons International in lieu of flowers.
Judith Krumdieck
Judith Ann Krumdieck, 75, of Gahanna, passed away July 5, 2016, at home after a long two year battle with cancer. Judy was born and raised in Ironton, the first child of James and Rita (Cannon) Marting, who preceded her in death.
Judy is survived by her siblings, Jan (Tom) Campbell, Jennifer (Bill) Heiser, Jim (Beth) Marting; stepsister, Jill (Don) Trask; and sister-in- law, Freida Franke.
Judy attended the college of St. Teresa in Winona, Minnesota, where she received a degree in teaching. She taught school in Minnesota for several years before returning to Ohio to teach at St. Mary’s in Portsmouth and Our Lady of Victory in Columbus. After returning to Ohio, she met and married Jerry Krumdieck. She and Jerry celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on July 1. They did not have any children, but she leaves a host of nieces and nephews who grew up with the threat of “Aunt Judy cleaning their clock” if they got out of line. It remains a mystery as to what “cleaning their clock” was, since no one ever pushed it. Judy has four surviving aunts and many, many, many first cousins.
There will be a visitation 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 105 E. Johnstown Road, Gahanna. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church, 807 Havens Corners Road, Gahanna. Fr. Ryan Schmit Celebrant. Inurnment will take place at a later date. Ruth Mays
Ruth Ann Mays, 80, of South Point, died Monday, July 4, 2016, at Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Kentucky. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point with Bishop E. S. Harper officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. Willis “Billy” Reaves, III, 63, of Proctorville, died Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at home. He is survived by his wife, Donna Reaves.
