School has been out for a couple of weeks for some children in Lawrence County, and many of them are probably celebrating with sleeping in late, playing outdoors or family vacations.

Unfortunately, there are some children who can’t celebrate in the same ways, because, now, they have to worry about where to get their meals.

School breakfasts and lunches are the only hot meals some children get. And when summer comes, those steady meals go away. But thanks to a partnership between Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization and the USDA, those in need won’t go hungry.

Free lunchtime meals will be provided to children ages 1-18 at 11 different sites throughout Lawrence County.

Meals will be provided at Lawrence Village Apartments, Ironton Middle School, Ironton High School, Ironton Metropolitan Housing Authority, First Baptist Church in Ironton, Collins Career Center, Chesapeake United Methodist Church, Burlington Commons Park, Storm Creek Apartments, Fairland East Elementary and Rock Hill Schools. Ironton Middle will also serve breakfast.

It is extremely important that everyone helps spread the word about this program. No child should have to go hungry for reasons that are beyond their control.
