Asking for help can be a difficult — and humbling — experience for men and women in need.

But when what is lacking is food, one of the most basic of human needs, there is often little choice.

Thankfully, organizations like the Community Mission Outreach and the Second Harvest Food Bank are there to lend that helping hand during times of need.

The outreach program assisted more than 500 families last week, handing out fresh produce to those who needed it most.

These two community organizations, and the more than 30 volunteers who helped make it possible, all deserve to be commended.

During the current economic climate, they have offered assistance in an environment that encourages participation and does everything possible to make people feel comfortable with the help they are getting.

For this, all deserve to be recognized in this week’s “Good News, Good Neighbors” spotlight, a feature that The Tribune began a few weeks ago to offer praise to the men, women and organizations in our community who go above and beyond the call of duty.

Essentially, these are the best of the best who are leading by example. Those recognized are not content to sit on the sidelines and wait for others to take action.

When it comes to putting food on the tables in our community, these two organizations show that everyone can make a difference.
