Paris Jenkins

Nov. 20, 1925 — Feb. 13, 2016

Paris “Papaw” Jenkins passed away this past Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at the age of 90. Paris was born on Nov. 20, 1925, to parents Harrison and Murtie Jenkins. His brothers included Taylor, Harrison, George, Edward, Haskel and Ernest. His sisters were Nancy, Helen, Mary and Mae.

A member of the Protestant faith, Paris served as a staff sergeant and paratrooper in World War II, having participated in the battles of Normandy and Anzio Beach. During the course of his service, he travelled to England, France, Germany, Belgium and North Africa. He was captured twice, and was ultimately awarded the Silver Star, three Purple Hearts, an Oakleaf Cluster and five Battle Stars.

After returning home from war, Paris married Ruth Ann Whitt Jenkins on March 13, 1946, and the couple would go on to raise a large family, having several children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

During his life, Paris was a superintendent for Loft Painting Company, and a consultant for Jenkins Painting Company. He traded cattle, told jokes and war stories, smoked a tobacco pipe since the age of 11, was a member of the VFW, American Legion and DAV and never failed to support his family throughout his many years.

He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters; and by his sons, Paul David, Bobby Ray and George Leslie. He is survived in death by his sons, Bill and Keith Jenkins; daughters-in-law, Jewell, Vicki, Linda, Teresa and Terri; grandchildren, Jim, Jon, April, Todd, Melissa, Melanie, Jason, Brian and Kimmy; and great-grandchildren, Cheyanne, Joshua, Alexander, Jenna, Nathan, Paris, Hunter, Chase, Alexis, Olivia, Brody, Kylie, Marissa, Braydon and Maecy; and his beloved coffee pals at McDonald’s. He will be missed greatly.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Haverhill Cemetery with minister Rick Mollett officiating and military graveside rites will be performed by the VFW Post 8850. Kenneth Hughes

Kenneth Wayne Hughes, 53, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, West Virginia. Kenny is survived by his wife, Joyce Hughes. There will be no services. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, assisted the family with arrangements. Gregory Bland

Gregory A. Bland, 54, of Willow Wood, died Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Teresa Betts Bland. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville.

William (Billy) Hay, 48 of Ironton, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016 at King’s Daughters Medical Center. He will be cremated. Brown Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

 

 

Gary Hunt

July 16, 1966—Feb. 15, 2016

Gary David Hunt, 49, of Ironton, passed away Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Ironton. The Lawrence County native was born July 16, 1966, a son of Mary Lou Lambert Hunt and Herman Hunt of Ironton.

Gary attended Ironton and Rock Hill schools and was of the Baptist faith. He was a lathe operator and tow motor operator with Hayes-Lemmerz for 15 years. Gary was a fun loving person who always helped anyone who needed it. He was always the life of the party and loved all his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Hunt; and a niece, Jaynie Hunt.

In addition to his parents Gary is survived by the love of his life, Connie Sue Jones, of Ironton; a daughter, Allison J. Freeman of Ironton; a brother, Donald Hunt, of Dewitt, Michigan; four sisters, Nancy (Jeff) Huff, of Kitts Hill, Vicki (Scott Ashmore) Washburn, of Ironton, M’Lisa (Dale) Clark of Bath, Michigan, and Leslie (Brock) Hunt Feltner, of Ironton; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery. Rondolyn Cenci

Oct. 16, 1957—Feb. 14, 2016

Rondolyn Michele Cenci, 58, of Ironton, passed Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016, at King’s Daughter Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky.  The Lawrence County native was born Oct. 16, 1957, the daughter of the late Ronnie B. Potter and Opal Maxine Brickey Potter.

Rondolyn attended Ironton High School, was a homemaker and a born again Christian.  She served on the Lawrence County Fair Queen Committee, enjoyed knitting and crocheting and was a cat lover.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Kevin Bruce Potter and David Brickey.

She is survived by uncle, Gene (Nadine) Brickey, of South Point; uncle, Ray (Connie) Brickey, of Columbus; and a special friend, Jeffrey Schafer, of South Point.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Woodland Cemetery, section 12 with the Rev. Steve Williams officiating. There will be no public visitation.

Isabella Marie Brewer Sanford; 25-week-old daughter of Katlyn Brewer Sanford and Josh Sanford of Ironton, was born stillborn on Friday Feb. 12, 2016, at Cabell-Huntington Hospital.

Emmaleigh Dawn Brewer Sanford; 2-day-old daughter of Katlyn Brewer Sanford and Josh Sanford of Ironton, died Sunday Feb. 14, 2016 at Cabell-Huntington Hospital.

Keeping with the parents’ wishes their daughters will be cremated. Brown Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
