In a tough battle between two rivals, the Fairland Lady Dragons beat the Chesapeake Lady Panthers in four sets Thursday.

The Lady Dragons won the Ohio Valley Conference game 25-19, 23-25, 25-15, and 25-22.

“Our girls played their hearts out, but Fairland outplayed us,” said Chesapeake coach Dana Edwards. “Coach (Michelle) Gorby has done a great job.

“Sashe Burcham is a heck of a volleyball player. She has one of the best serves in the area. All their kids played really well.”

Chesapeake was led by Amanda Ruffner with 11 kills and 11 blocks. Ashley Miller had 7 kills and 2 ace serves while Sarah Rice handed out 35 setting assists.

“Sarah Rice was all over the court,” said Edwards. “Kristen Webb was on her belly getting digs all night and Kelsey Dillow and Macy Allen played well.”

In the reserve match, Fairland won 25-16, 27-25 behind the play of Chloe Stanley and Chelsea Stanley. Chesapeake was led by Kenzie Moore.

The Lady Panthers (6-8) play at Rock Hill Tuesday and Coal Grove next Thursday in conference matches.
