Election Day is just around the corner and The Tribune has been hard at work putting our annual election guide together.

The special section will be available in Sunday’s paper and will include information about candidates running for city, village and township offices.

At the beginning of October, we mailed to each candidate a questionnaire that he or she could fill out to let the voters know about their experience and goals for the office sought. Each candidate was asked the same questions and each candidate was given space to tell voters why he or she is the right person for the job.

In an effort to have enough space for everyone, questionnaires were not sent out to candidates running unopposed.

What you won’t find in Sunday’s election guide are board of education candidates.

While we personally hand-stuffed each and every envelope, one for each candidate, we found this week that many school board candidates had not received their questionnaires in the mail.

Each person running for an unopposed school board seat was called this week in an effort to give them a chance to fill out the questionnaire. Messages were left and we’ve already had a lot of success in getting some of those forms emailed out.

This is an excellent sign that candidates care about informing their potential voters.

We will run those responses on Sunday, Nov. 1. While we would have liked to publish all the candidates together, we felt this was the best way to give everyone a chance to be included.

It is very possible that people running for other offices in the county also did not receive a questionnaire. We published announcements in the paper, on our website and on Facebook, asking those candidates to notify us as soon as possible, to which we had some response. We extended the deadline accordingly.

We feel we have made every attempt possible to contact the candidates using multiple forms of communication. We hope everyone who wanted to be included had the opportunity to do so.
