CHESAPEAKE — The game was just as tough as the score indicates.

In four close, hard-fought sets, the Chesapeake Lady Panthers edged the South Point Lady Pointers 26-24, 25-23, 24-26 and 26-24 in an Ohio Valley Conference volleyball game.

“It was a hard-fought match on both sides. All our girls played with heart,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Allen Perry.

“I am really impressed with Chesapeake under the direction of first-year coach Rebecca Cremeans. Their hitters are hitting very hard and they dig everything.”

Olivia Abner led the South Point offense with 19 kills and 2 blocks. Brookly Badgett had 38 setting assists and 2 aces, and Sara Allen led the defense with 9 digs.

Carley Lester had 14 kills and Atiya Spaulding 12 kills to pace Chesapeake.

Also for the Lady Panthers, Jozy Jones and 3 aces, Bri Russell and Natalee Hall 2 aces each, Laura Rice 51 digs, McKenna Curry 33 digs, Kaylee Curry 2 blocks and Melanie Noble 40 setting assists.
