Offering Classroom Collections to local teachers, Briggs Library aims to provide teachers with resources they can use in their classrooms.
Classroom Collections are kits designed to provide age-appropriate literature and activities to students and include a teacher’s manual.
Kits designed for preschool through second grade students offer a variety of books that center around a theme and offer activities based on the theme, said Susan Spears, librarian assistant.
“Sometimes there are puppets or posters (in a kit) that relate to a theme,” said Jan Gullett, librarian assistant.
For students in third grade and above, kits are focused on one book and provide 30 copies of the book.
“That’s so teachers can hand them out,” said Spears.
Teachers can requests kits from any of the Briggs Library branches. Both public school and homeschool teachers can check out the kits after providing proof of teacher status and registering for a teacher library card.
There are a variety of ready-made kits that teachers can choose to check out, said Gullett.
“We just hope that teachers in the area will take advantage of these resources,” said Gullett.
