Upgrades at BOE right move

Lawrence County will soon join dozens of other Ohio counties in an attempt to streamline the voting process.
This is good news for anyone who has ever waited in a long registration line on Election Day.
The board of elections will upgrade their poll books to electronic versions. These would replace the multiple paper poll books with electronic tablets that contain voter data for the entire county.
Instead of flipping through page after page of voter information, poll workers will be able to type in the name of a voter or scan their driver’s license and call up the voter’s information. If a voter is at the wrong precinct, the electronic poll book will alert the worker and give the proper site address.
Local board of elections officials say this upgrade could cut down voter sign-in time from two minutes to about 30 seconds. The upgrade would also save on paper costs.
Anything that government offices can do to increase ease, convenience and reliability of services while at the same time saving taxpayer resources is a good move.
