Remember county’s beginnings

In about a year and half, Lawrence County will celebrate its 200th birthday. This is a significant milestone for our county that should be notated on everyone’s calendar.
Another meaningful aspect of the bicentennial is the rebuilding project of the Burlington Courthouse, Lawrence County’s first.
Raising funds to help get the new courthouse replica was exactly what organizers sought last Saturday at the Burlington Commons Park.
However, it is good to see that the project is not only going to be a shell of a building, but will allow for residents to use the facility for a myriad of events.
The building project will cost $250,000, but the committee is well on their way to reaching the goal with nearly half already in-hand, pledged or grants already approved.
This is a worthwhile project for the bicentennial to pay homage to our county’s history while also allowing for something that will serve our county into the future.
We encourage all of Lawrence County to get behind this plan and help see the building of a replica of the Burlington Courthouse come to fruition.
It is essential for us as residents to always remember our past and where the county has come over the past 200 years while maintaining a focus on ensuring Lawrence County has a rich future.
