PINE GROVE — Clean up a few more lockers and charge up a few more golf carts.
Several new members were welcomed into the fun-loving Ironton Ladies’ Nine Hole Golf Association at the Ironton Country Club.
Former member Jamie Dyer returned and brought with her a guest, Dora Carmon. Also joining the group was Connie Chamberlin.
Last week’s hostess was Becky Dillow and who served refreshments and welcomed the new members with open faced clubs, er, rather open arms. Dillow noted the club would love to have even more members join the weekly event.
The club will be meeting at 9 a.m. during the summer months with golf beginning at 9:30 to avoid the rising temperatures.
Breakfast refreshments are served at the meeting and lunch follows the day’s golfing events.
Pat Riggs gave an update on the current Ringer Tournament and posted information about the upcoming six-week handicap tournament.
Winners for the week were Rose Auble, Pat Lambert with two events, and the new members Dora Carmon and Connie Chamberlin established themselves immediately with wins.
The previous week’s hostess was Pat Lambert and the winners were Pat Riggs, Becky Dillow, Sharon Fox, Betty Fraley, Joyce Lewis and Lambert.
Besides the golfing at the Ironton Country Club, the ladies turned their luncheon conversation to outside events.
Becky Dillow posted her best score and won numerous events at the Silo Golf Fun Day.
Sharon Fox not only golfed but performed grandmother duties as her grandson Marshall rode along with the group the past two weeks.
On a sad note, the group took time to mourn the loss of longtime member Johnna Jones who died recently at the age of 84. The women expressed condolences to her family, husband Ernie and son Greg.
“Her memory will continue on with us,” said Joyce Lewis.
