Sub sandwich sale planned to help fund Tools4School

For 10 years St. Paul Lutheran Church has provided school supplies and backpacks for students in the Tri-State each fall in a four-hour giveaway.
Last year almost 2,000 supply-filled book bags were distributed to lines of families that stretched five blocks long from the downtown church. Helping that many takes money and this week the church is bringing back a popular fundraiser to help defray some of the costs.
On Wednesday at lunchtime the church will offer its Tools4Schools Sub Sale.
“We used to do this and were trying to think of something different for the Tools4Schools and decided to resurrect this,” Nancy Corn, one of the organizers, said.
On the menu will be a 12-inch sub made up of baked ham, turkey, salami and two kinds of cheese with onion, mayonnaise, mustard, salt, pepper and submarine dressing on the side. The cost is $7.
“The last few years we’ve given away almost 2,000 book bags filled with grade-appropriate school supplies,” Corn said
The amount of money to pay for this event depends on the sales the organizers can find beforehand.
“And we couldn’t do this ministry if it weren’t for All Saints Lutheran Church in Worthington,” Corn said. “They do close to half.”
Any extra supplies are given to the schools to hand out when there is the need.
The church needs to have the majority of sandwiches pre-ordered so organizers will know how much food to buy.
Orders must be placed by Monday at 1 p.m. and can be made by calling the church at 740-532-4727 or Corn at 740-534-2673.
