Troy Scott was feeling sick. It must have been contagious. The Fairview Eagles didn’t feel so good after the game.
Scott overcome affects of the flu to score 21 points, grab six rebounds and get four steals as the St. Joseph Flyers beat Fairview Eagles 59-46 on Tuesday.
“Troy didn’t seem right during warm-ups and I asked him if he was alright and he said he was fine, but the other kids told me after the game he was sick but he wanted to play,” said Flyers’ coach Jeremy Williams.
Wulf Goheen drained five 3-pointers as he scored 21 points for the Flyers, too. He also had four assists.
Chris Lewis pulled down 14 rebounds and blocked two shots for the Flyers (7-8).
Fairview (11-8) was led by Alex Roy with 18 points and Antwan Washington scored 15.
Scott scored 8 points in the first quarter to offset 6 points by Dylan Romine as St. Joseph took a 20-11 lead.
Zack Kelly and Goheen hit 3-pointers as the Flyers got only 6 points in the second quarter. Roy had 6 points as Fairview cut the deficit to 26-22 at the break.
“As well as we played in the first quarter is how bad we played in the second quarter,” said Williams.
“But we played better in the second half, especially in the fourth quarter. Having depth now really helps. Having fresh guys in the fourth quarter is big.”
Goheen and Scott combined for 15 points in the third quarter as St. Joseph put the lead at 43-38.
Scott hit two clutch 3-pointers and Goheen added a trifecta along with hitting 4 of 4 at the foul line in the fourth quarter. The Flyers were 7 of 9 from the line with Kelly going 2 for 2.
“Wulf’s 3-pointer gave us some breathing room,” said Williams.
The Flyers host Portsmouth Notre Dame Wednesday and visit Racine Southern on Saturday.
