SOUTH POINT — A shooting Tuesday evening on Township Road 616 in the area of Leo’s Carryout has left one man dead and two suspects on the run.
“We received a call of a shooting in the Sheridan area around 7 p.m.,” Jeff Lawless, Lawrence County Sheriff, said. “We believe the shooting is drug-related and an isolated incident.”
Early reports of the shooting being a home invasion were untrue, Lawless said.
Witnesses saw a white Chevy Impala driven by a black male with a white female passenger leave the area where the shooting took place, Lawless said. It is not known what direction the Impala traveled once it left the area.
In a separate incident, just after 9 p.m. a deputy was sent to an area on County Road 161 after a resident reported shots being fired and seeing a vehicle in the area matching the description of the white Impala. Lawless said officers spoke with the caller and determined the vehicle was not in the area and no shots were fired.
“Obviously we are in the early stages of the investigation,” Lawless said. “We will release further information as we are able to without compromising the integrity of the case.”
The shooting victim’s name has not been released.
