The Lincoln Brass Quintet, which is affiliated with the Huntington Symphony Orchestra, will present a Christmas concert of holiday favorites arranged for brass quintet at 7:30 p.m. on Monday in the Ironton High School auditorium.

The Lincoln Brass Quintet has been in existence for over 30 years and has performed for thousands of people over those years. They regularly present Children’s Concerts as an outreach of the Huntington Symphony Orchestra and perform yearly in a fundraising effort for Habitat for Humanity in Chillicothe. The group also performs for weddings, churches and public concerts.

Keith Carper, on trumpet, is a founding member of the Lincoln Brass Quintet. He received a bachelor’s degree in music education and a master’s degree in music from Marshall University. He teaches middle school and high school instrumental music in the Fairland Local School District. Carper serves as principal trumpet with the Huntington Symphony and POPS Orchestra and has also performed with the West Virginia Symphony and the Ohio Valley Symphony.

Jeff Flanagan, on trumpet, received his bachelor’s degree from West Virginia Tech in Montgomery, West Virginia. He has performed at various churches and for numerous weddings in the Charleston area. He also performed with the Lilliput Orchestra, the West Virginia Symphony in Charleston and the Huntington Symphony/POPS Orchestra. Flanagan also performs with several jazz groups in the Charleston area including the Downbeat Jazz Band and Big Planet Soul. He sells pumps in the Charleston area when he’s not performing.

Jonathan Bradley, on horn, is also a founding member of the Lincoln Brass Quintet. He received a bachelor’s degree in music education from West Virginia Wesleyan College and a master’s degree from Marshall University. He taught instrumental music in Cabell County for 18 years and recently retired as assistant principal at Fairland High School. He is a past member of the Marshall University/Community Orchestra and the Greater Huntington Symphonic Band. Bradley currently performs with the Huntington Symphony/POPS Orchestra.

Joe Patton, on trombone, received his bachelor’s degree in music education and a master’s degree in trombone performance from Marshall University. He is a member of the Ohio Valley Symphony and the Huntington Symphony/POPS Orchestra. He also performed with the West Virginia Symphony, the Charleston Light Opera Guild and many traveling musical groups that visit the area. In addition to the Lincoln Brass Quintet, Patton is a member of the Charleston Brass Quintet and Lipps Big Band. A former student of John Mead at Marshall, he performs extensively as a freelance musician in the Tri-State. Patton also played with Ray Charles, the Moody Blues, the Temptations, the Four Tops and Frank Sinatra Jr. He taught instrumental music for 36 years at Poca Middle School in Putnam County, West Virginia.

Buddy Madden, on tuba, is also a Lincoln Brass Quintet founding member. Madden studied tuba at Marshall University. He has performed with various musical groups including the Greater Huntington Symphonic Band and serves as Principal Tuba for the Huntington Symphony/POPS Orchestra. He also performed with the West Virginia Symphony. Buddy is employed by Kerr’s Music World in Huntington.

The Ohio University Southern Community Band will also perform and the quintet will perform with the band. The concert is part of the Ohio University Southern Community Concert Series and is jointly sponsored by the Ironton High School music department. Admission is free and open to the public.
