Nicole Cox of Pedro held 8-month-old Ava in her arms swaying to the bluegrass tunes coming from the Country Knights.

“She likes the music,” said Cox who had taken a break from giving tours at the Lawrence County Museum to step into the side yard and take part in the annual museum bean dinner on Saturday.

By midafternoon about 30 were at tables enjoying cornbread and beans cooked over an open fire by Debbie Rogers or hot dogs and sauce.

“I think our history is important and this brings people together to honor the county’s history,” Cox said.

The bean dinner, which happens every fall, has been going on for the past eight years and is one of many fundraisers the museum conducts.

“It is a fundraiser and it is fun for the community,” Kay Rader of the historical society, said.
