WHEELERSBURG — Mary Emma Reed, 86, of Wheelersburg, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, at the SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth, Ohio. The Lawrence County native was born Nov. 22, 1922, the daughter of the late Newton and Melvina Fradd Justice. She is survived by her husband, Berkley A. Reed whom she married Dec. 14, 1942.
Mrs. Reed was a graduate of Waterloo High School. She was a former employee of Williams Manufacturing and retired from Best Care Nursing Center in Wheelersburg 1988. She was a member of the Temple Baptist Church in Portsmouth, Eastern Star and the Vernon Township Senior 55 Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Cobb; and a brother, Curt Justice.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and Johnny Smith of Wheelersburg; a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Faith Reed of Mt. Perry; three granddaughters,
Krystal and Brian Knapp of Wheelersburg, Cheyenne Smith of Wheelersburg, and Carsie Reed of Mt. Perry; a grandson, Nicholas Berkley Reed of Mt. Perry; sister, Wanda Nelson of Kitts Hill; special niece, Regina “ Jeanie” Miller of Portsmouth; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, with Pastor John Gowdy officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends called Friday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
