PROCTORVILLE — The annual 9/11 commemoration in the eastern end will once again be in the parking lot of WesBanco’s Proctorville branch.
The event starts at 2 p.m. Saturday with a flag-raising by the VFW Post 6878.
“Then the members will do a flag-folding ceremony and explain the meaning of folding the flag,” Devinh Gibson, of WesBanco, who has organized the event for the past six years, said.
Also during the flag-folding ceremony, the post will give the history on the National Anthem, that is marking its bicentennial this year.
“They will touch on what it means to be a patriot,” Gibson said.
There will be a free lunch from Buddy’s Barbecue, inflatables and other games for children.
“We will have 9/11 commemorative hats that were made for the events and we would like to give out to the community free,” Gibson said. “We encourage anybody in the community to come, not just if they were in the service.”
The event will happen rain or shine.
