ASHLAND, Ky. — A Proctorville man pleaded not guilty to drug charges following his arrest in Ashland during an undercover sting operation on Winchester Avenue.
Jeremiah M. Bennett, 33, of 91 Township Road 1152, Proctorville, was charged with complicity to trafficking in a controlled substance, a Class C felony.
He was arrested along with Thomas A. Reid, 34, from Detroit, at the Ashland Bus Station at 8:43 p.m. Thursday.
According to a release from the Boyd County Sheriff’s Department, the pair had heroin with an estimated street value of $50,000.
Bennett was allegedly picking up Reid off a bus coming from Detroit, Mich., to drive to Huntington, W.Va.
“Upon search of the vehicle the heroin was located in a pink backpack wrapped in dirty wet woman’s underwear, used tampons and fake hair,” the release states. “The heroin was also wrapped in a plastic bag with seasoning and spices around the heroin to attempt to mask the odor.”
Reid was charged with trafficking a controlled substance over 2 grams of heroin and possession of a controlled substance.
According to a Boyd County Detention Center spokesman, Bennett remains lodged in the county jail and was ordered by the court to hire his own attorney.
