City Heat to go on stage at 6 p.m. in downtown

 

The Tuesday night summer concert series at the Ironton Farmers Market continues tonight with a performance by Tri-State band City Heat.

The show starts at 6 p.m. at the farmers market in downtown Ironton. If there is bad weather, the concert will be moved indoors to the Ro-Na Theater.

City Heat will play a variety of tunes from throughout the past several decades, including Motown hits, funk, pop, rock ‘n’ roll, disco, and Top-40 selections.

“City Heat played this series last summer and was a big hit,” Sam Heighton, farmers market manager, said. “They also played last Thursday night at Pullman Square in Huntington to a capacity crowd.”

The farmers market has become more than just a stop for fresh produce on the weekends. In addition to the Tuesday concert series, local musicians also entertain vendors and shoppers on Saturdays.

This past weekend, Ironton-based group Kelley’s Bridge Band performed. Bruce Brown leads the group.

“They play mostly Irish music, which makes for nice background music for the market shoppers,” Heighton said.

Other groups have also performed, including the Ani-Tsalagi New Generation Cherokee Indian group.

Farmers market organizers are also gearing up to celebrate National Farmers Market week, which is Aug 3-9.

On Saturday, Aug. 9, Ironton In Bloom will prepare free corn on the cob for visitors.

The market is open from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday and Saturday through October and is located on South Second Street in downtown Ironton. The market is a project of Ironton aLive and is sponsored by Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
