COAL GROVE — The Dawson-Bryant Board of Education has started its search for a new superintendent for the second time in as many years.
Current superintendent George York announced his retirement in June and his last day is July 31. The board wasted no time advertising the position and a pair of special meetings is scheduled for next week to interview applicants.
“The most important thing a board of education does is hire a superintendent,” Brad Miller, Dawson-Bryant treasurer, said. “Many of the applicants have no experience as a superintendent, but that’s not always a bad thing.”
Miller said the board received 14 resumes this year compared to 11 last year.
The following people submitted resumes for the board’s consideration:
• Derek Runyon, principal, Paul G. Blazer (Ashland, Ky.);
• Ellen Adkins, director of instructional Programs, Dawson-Bryant Local Schools;
• Steve Easterling, principal, Dawson-Bryant High School;
• Terri Freeman, district curriculum coordinator, Northwest Local Schools, Lucasville;
• Bruce Kidder, superintendent, Frontier Local Schools, Matamoras;
• Michael Eicher, principal, Dawson-Bryant Middle School;
• Kenneth Schmiesing, special education supervisor/principal, Independence Education Center, Defiance;
• Darren Jenkins, treasurer, Bellaire Local School, Bellaire;
• Jeremy Newman, principal, Symmes Valley Elementary School, Willow Wood;
• Thomas Brady, principal, Madison Middle School, Madison;
• Richard Roach, teacher, Dawson-Bryant Local Schools;
• Kennith Cook, retired South Point superintendent;
• Andrea Townsend, director, Springfield City Schools, Springfield;
• Rodriquez Broadnax, no current employment provided.
The Dawson-Bryant board will have its regular meeting at 5 p.m. Monday and will interview applicants at special meetings at 5 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.
Lawrence County Board of Education Superintendent Dr. James Payne will lead the selection process.
