Robert Irvin Drown, Sr., died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
The Wayne, W. Va. native was born May 30, 1927, the son of the late Irvin and Iva McIntyre Drown. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Beaver Drown, whom he married Sept. 22, 1995.
Mr. Drown was a 1945 graduate of Wayne High School and attended two years at Marshall University. He was a Navy WWII veteran and a retired owner/operator of Portage Trucking Company. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge and the VFW in Huntington, and the Elks in Ironton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Drown.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert I. Drown, Jr and Mark Collins, both of Ironton, David N. and Barbara Drown of Waverly, and Robbie and Kelley Collins of Conyers, Ga.; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Russell Goode of Waverly; a brother and sister-in-law, Homer and Marg Drown of Proctorville;
eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, with Pastor David Woods officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery.
