Ironton City Council will have its first meeting of July at 6 p.m. tonight on the third floor of the city center and with several absences at recent meetings multiple ordinances and resolutions will be presented for adoption.

One such item is the first reading of ordinance 14-27 regarding the construction, administration and inspection of the North Fifth and Elm streets sewer separation phase II project. The $71,210 project is in accordance with a mandate from the United States Environmental Protection agency.

Ordinance 14-25 amending the annual operating budget will have its second reading, but the item requests a declaration of emergency and could possibly be adopted after only two readings.

Ordinance 14-23 authorizing the mayor to purchase four new Dumpsters for the Holiday Inn Express and Suites being constructed as part of the Gateway Project on Ninth Street will have its third reading and possible approval.

Resolution 14-26 for renewal of a tax levy for flood protection will be presented and, if adopted, will allow the levy to appear on the November ballot. The resolution states the city must obtain a certificate of estimated property tax revenue and submit the same to the Lawrence County Board of Elections in order to renew the one mill tax flood levy.

Resolution 14-28 authorizes the mayor to accept the Adams Lane sanitary sewer extension from the old cement plant property.

The property is outside the city limits so tapping into the city’s sewer system must be approved by council because of required prior testing. The property has been approved.

Mayor Rich Blankenship will recommend Mike Gleichauf’s appointment to the planning commission for a two-year term ending June 1, 2016.
