COLUMBUS — Rita Cannon Marting Crabtree, 91, of Columbus, formerly of Ironton, died Sept. 28, 2009, at Mother Angeline McCrory Manor in Columbus.
She was the daughter of Albert and Augusta Geswein Cannon. Rita was active in the Ironton community throughout her life – as a member of St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church, where she served on the parish council, and as a member of the Catholic Women’s Club. For more than 40 years she was a member of the Child Welfare Club, serving in various leadership roles. She was the last surviving member of the St. Joseph High School Class of 1935.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her spouses, James Marting and Wilbur Crabtree; brothers, Albert, John, and Thomas and sisters, Kathleen Cannon and Ruth Haney.
She is survived by her daughters, Judy (Jerry) Krumdieck, Janet (Tom) Campbell, Jill (Don) Trask, Jennifer (Bill) Heiser; and a son, Jim (Beth) Marting; nine grandchildren, Tom (Andrea) Campbell, Susan (Tommy) Tousey, John Campbell, Patrick (Heather) Heiser, Aileen Heiser, Megan Heiser, Jason Wagner, Jessica Marting and Jonathan Marting; six greatgrandchildren; siblings, Margaret Ann Henneman, William Cannon and Eugene Cannon; sisters-in-law, Lea Cannon, Marilyn Cannon, Sally Cannon, and Margaret Marting; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church with the Rev. David Huffman officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home and 9 a.m. until time of Mass Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial gifts to St. Lawrence Church P.O.
