Everyone can take a page out of the Union 4-H club’s book.

When the members of the club, ages 9 to 16, saw some of their classmates standing at the bus stops without proper winter wear, they sprang into action.

The club started a coat drive to anonymously distribute the clothing to their peers in need.

No one asked them to do this. They just saw something in their community that was wrong and worked to fix it.

How many problems in Lawrence County could be solved if everyone simply took the initiative rather than waited for someone else to do the work?

Granted, there are many issues that can’t be solved by holding a coat drive, but it’s a good place to start.

Community improvement is like a snowball effect. It won’t happen overnight.

Starting with a few small acts of kindness and charity can go a long way to increasing positivity and setting a good example for your neighbors.

Soon enough, others will see what a difference these small acts can make and, hopefully, they will follow suit with some projects of their own.

Clearly, sitting around and complaining does absolutely no good.

The Union 4-H club didn’t complain. They took action. And that’s an example we should all try and live up to.

Kudos to the group of children who cared for the welfare of their classmates and we look forward to seeing what else is in store for the club.
