Only one of three scheduled specially-called meetings of the Ironton City Council were necessary to approve the city’s 2014 health insurance plan.

Brown/Raybourne Insurance representative Dave Brown presented council’s finance committee with insurance quotes for 2014 on Thursday. The new plan has employees being covered by Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Brown said the policy’s deductible and 90-day prescription plan will decrease and co-pays and 30-day prescription plan will increase slightly from last year.

Special city council meetings were set for 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week to read and possibly enter into a contract for health insurance with Anthem. Council approved the plan 6-0 on Monday.

“Council president Kevin Waldo called for three meetings in a row to ensure the insurance proposal would get heard by council,” Ironton Mayor Rich Blankenship, said. “The plan was if all members show up on Monday and the ordinance is adopted, Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s meetings would be cancelled.”
