The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office has issued a Level 2 snow emergency until further notice.
In a press release issued at 9:50 a.m., Sheriff Jess Lawless said that after speaking with County Engineer Doug Cade and EMA Director Mike Boster, the alert was issued and will be in effect until snow crews can catch up to the current snow fall.
“The roads, including U.S. 52, are snow and ice cored and dangerous at this time,” the release stated. “Many law enforcement agencies are handling accidents at this time.”
A Level 2 snow emergency means the roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roads.
The release encouraged people to contact their employers to see if they should report to work.
